_ I really want to share with you a thought-provoking question I sometimes ask at my Vision Board Workshops, to encourage people to focus their minds in the right direction before starting their Vision Board. I ask this question at many different types of seminars and retreats. It grounds people, humbles them and allows them to concentrate of who and how they really want to be.
I remember listening to a personal development CD years ago from a motivational speaker and he said something to the effect of - "by writing out your memorial service or what you'd want someone to say at your service, you can change your life from who you are to who you want to become."
As crazy or morbid as that may sound, it makes a big difference in your future. I recently was introduced to it again in the book "Creating your Best Life" by Caroline Adams Miller, Mapp & Dr. Michael B. Frisch. They call it "Portrait of your Life". They ask you to take "a few minutes to write a paragraph or two about how you would like to be remembered".
This is such a powerful exercise because you may not be living as that person; the person you want to be remembered as. I would want my memorial to read:
Marion was such a wonderful, giving person. She did her best to be in service at all times. She was selfless and treated everyone with the respect they deserve no matter who they were. She was funny and giggled a lot.
Marion was a wonderful, daughter, sister and friend. She was a great wife and a very patient mom to her pets. She married her soul mate and they had the best days of their lives together; the kind of marriage her aunt and uncle had, a true love; an unconditional love.
Marion loved others unconditionally. She always looked for the good in everything and everyone. She motivated and inspired everyone she came in contact with. She'll truly be missed.
That's how I want it to read. Is that how it would read if I passed today? NO. I think right now it would read:
Marion was a good friend and a loyal partner She was there for her dad until the end. She treated everyone with the respect they deserved no matter who they were. She was very giggly and laughed a lot. She was a good listener and she talked a lot too.
Marion was a go-getter and whenever she focused on something - look out world. She was great at manifesting what she wanted. She always looked for the positive even in the most negative situations. Marion was a wonderful mommy to her pets. She will be missed for her motivation and inspiration.
Even though it sounds good – the now – it's nowhere near the future me, I want to be. I am still learning to be selfless, not that I'm selfish but it's a constant learning for me. I do believe I'm a good friend in the way I listen and give advice and do my best to motivate and inspire anyone and everyone sometimes to a fault. I make it my life's mission, even when I'm not working.
I still have a lot to improve upon and evolve in life.
I feel I am a good wife but I can be better of course. I believe it takes two and marriage is constant compromise and understanding. We can always grow and improve and be a better person.
By reading my memorial, it makes me aware of exactly who and what I want to be; with that knowledge I can turn it into affirmations to live by.
Some people prefer affirmations with - I will, I prefer - I am. I speak in the now even if it's something I want for the future because it makes it real, as if I'm already there. I wrote them both ways for you to pick from. It's important to do whatever resonates with you and works best.
- I will be in service whenever I can and there is a need to be.
- I am in service whenever I can be.
- I will be a selfless person and think about others.
- I am a selfless person and think about how others feel.
- I will be a good sister, friend and wife.
- I am a good sister, friend and partner.
- I will continue to be a good mommy to my pets and be more patient when need be.
- I am a good mommy to my pets and I am very patient.
- I will be a better wife; constantly taking my husband's feelings into consideration and putting myself in his shoes. I will work harder at compromise.
- I am a good wife. I constantly work on taking my husband's feelings into consideration and I put myself in his shoes in order to have an idea of where he's coming from.
Can you see how it helped me to become aware of whom I wanted to be and what is really important to me? It's an eye opening experience. I'm glad I'm writing it for you to read because it made me cognizant to the fact I forgot when I did it last time. Now I will keep my affirmations in a place where I can see them every day.
I challenge you to give it a shot; what have you got to lose? Maybe you'll lose a bad habit or a behavior or a pattern. Those are great things to lose. Maybe you'll lose weight. We never know what will come of us, so be open and when you are ready, give it shot.
I would love to hear about the difference in your before and after if you are willing to share. You'll see - It's amazing.This was written by yours truly, Marion Licchiello but originally posted on Motivateus.com. Check out the website... it ROCKS!!!!!!!!

My book has finally arrived!!!!!!! Hooray!!!!! See my Contributors page to see all the wonderful people who were a part of it. Book Description Welcome to your new journey. This book has many stories of triumph and success. It follows my life story, along with many others, to show how we all changed our lives through craziness, diversity, loss, grief, break-ups, heartache, devastation, health issues, eating disorders, abuse, addictions, and the list goes on. Living in the now is what works for me. If you are not happy with your life as it is now, perhaps modifying just one viewpoint or outlook can help you discover and live your life’s purpose. Isn't it worth at least giving it a shot to reap the rewards the same way we did. We all have a past, but we need to focus on the present. My hope is that you recognize a piece of yourself in one of us and realize that if we can change our lives for the better; you can too! ANYONE CAN! About the Author Marion Licchiello is a Self Empowerment Coach and Motivational Speaker. She has studied many modalities that include helping others such as: personal training, fitness counseling, hypnosis, Thought Field Therapy, Kinesiology, coaching, and consulting. She prides herself on learning and growing to become a better person day by day and helping others do the same. Her expertise lies in her experiences growing up in the Bronx and changing her attitude and thoughts from negative to positive. Marion’s articles, write-ups, and other stories have been published by various websites and magazines. More than twenty five years ago, after being bedridden with Lyme disease for nine months, she was told she may be in a wheelchair the rest of her life. That was unacceptable to her. She realized if she had used the power of positive and healthy thoughts, she may have been out of bed in three weeks. She took her life into her own hands, not only in this situation but through abuse, being controlled, and growing up in a negative environment. Her primary belief is that whatever you focus on is what you get, so why not focus on the positive? The law of attraction guides her each and every day. She is a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. She also believes attitude is everything and changing one single thought can make a world of difference in your life…. And she always believes if she can do it, Anyone Can! Product Details - Paperback/Hardcover/Kindle

_ This is the first of my guest blogs. I hope you enjoy. As with all exercise routines, please consult with your doctor. Latest and Greatest: The Ballet Workout Much like fad diets, fitness trends come and go, recycled, reused and re-purposed. The days of Jane Fonda aerobics and Sweatin’ to the Oldies have been lapped by P90X and other extreme challenges like Tough Mudders and Spartan obstacle courses. One type of workout that recently piqued my interest puts the ballet bar front and center. Now, I remember ballet class back as a kid; I can’t say that they are fond memories, but let’s say I’m no stranger to a ballet bar. It seems like a great idea; ballet is certainly a style of dance that can help you tone while promoting flexibility and strengthening your core. The whole idea is that ballet gives you a body shape unlike any other workout. It’s about being elegant and being feminine but still being really strong. Since the ballet class hasn’t yet made it to my local gym, I figured I’d look into this latest and greatest style of exercise. Ballerobica: Hybrid between kickboxing and ballet. It requires no equipment and you can do it in the comfort of your own home, or if you live near a studio, you can take a group class. Overall, flexibility is also emphasized, and the class provides a total body workout. Ballet Barre Workout: Blend of Pilates and ballet. A bar would be helpful, but you can just as easily use a chair in your own home if you order the DVD package. The claim is that it will burn fat and calories while toning and elongating your muscles, lifting your booty, slimming your thighs and sculpting your upper body. Ballet Beautiful: Designed to make a world-class ballerina's lean, graceful, and strong body-type accessible to everyone. The workout is aimed to provide non-dancers with the techniques to quickly build and maintain the beauty and strength of a ballet dancer's form. The only place to try this style out is in New York City right now, but you can take a class through Skype from the comfort of your own home. The Bar Method: Integrates the fat burning format of interval training, the muscle shaping technique of isometrics (using groups of muscles in opposition with other group to increase strength), and the elongating principles of dance conditioning. This workout was designed in conjunction with physical therapists to ensure joint safety. A bar is necessary and there are multiple studios around the country where you can try it out. All in all, these styles have similar techniques to Pilates and Yoga. All of them require you to be disciplined and to have a real commitment with workouts multiple times a week in order to see results. The bottom line is that with any method you choose, you'll be doing something good for your body regardless how much time you can commit. All of these methods promote flexibility and some sort of aerobic component to get some blood flow as you elongate. I hope you look into one of the styles I mentioned or do some more digging for a ballet class and tap back into your inner ballerina. 10 Minutes is All it Takes!
This past weekend I attended the 12th Annual Women’s Health and Fitness Expo (Theme: Weight Loss for Wellness: Lose Weight, Feel Great) at Miller Middle School in Lake Katrine, NY., headed by Dr. Debra Karnasciewicz, founder and director of the not-for-profit Women’s Health and Fitness Foundation and the Expo.
The event focused on lifestyle changes we need to put into practice in order to get healthy and maintain good health. There were booths with everything from health care, health screenings, fitness demos, spa services make up and foods to complimentary healing sessions. There were also many sample stations for healthy type snack foods.
There were presentations offered throughout the day on subjects such as benefits of maintaining your ideal weight for health and wellness, heart and brain health, 10 minute solutions and many many other subjects relating to weight loss and wellness.
Two of the “At Home Biggest Losers” were there; Jennifer Rumple who discussed losing 145 lbs and Bernie Salazar who is now committed to and discussed helping combat obesity in children.
I really enjoyed the lecture by Jessica Smith, a nationally-recognized fitness and lifestyle expert and promoter of the “10-Minute Solution” and author of Thin in 10. She discussed how by exercising and following other 10-minute ideas each day you can improve your overall health and well being while doing it in very little time. Jessica has various fitness DVDs and has also been featured on over 40 million boxes of Special K products. She has written articles and tips/ideas for well known magazines such as Shape and Redbook.
Jessica had some great tips I feel anyone can incorporate into their every day lives. She pointed out some great 10 minute solutions such as 10 minute workouts, 10 minute meal preparation, 10 minute meditating or breathing, 10 minute fidgeting, 10 minute cleaning, going to bed 10 minutes earlier for 10 extra minutes sleep, 10 minute playing and there were a few more I can’t remember at the moment. She shared great ideas for each of the 10 minute solutions however the one I enjoyed most was when she had us all get up and do a 10 minute workout.
She had everyone in the auditorium get up and work out. In 10 minutes we worked every part of our body without weights or any kind of resistance except body weight. I feel like this is one of the most effective ways to get movement while working every muscle group. If you can’t get to a gym or if it’s raining, snowing or just too cold out you can always find time to do a 10 minute workout. In the auditorium, we used our own body weight by doing squats, leg lifts, knee lifts, tricep dips and many other fun yet effective exercises to work every muscle group to help create weight loss as well as a healthier lifestyle.
At her lecture she also spoke about fidgeting and I was intrigued because I just read an article/study about this last week. I remember thinking I should be a toothpick if this one is true. She said by incorporating fidgeting throughout your day or even just standing every once in a while if you work at a desk job you will burn a significant amount of calories per day. I do tend to fidget every now and then so I liked hearing this one. When I’m alone I will do my best to fidget more. I never thought those words would come out of my mouth. All my childhood years and even some adult years people would hold my knee to stop me from fidgeting. If that ever happens again I’ll remind the person I am purposely burning extra calories. Hee hee! I love that one. Fidgeting now has a new meaning for me and I like it.
As she shared the other 10 minute solutions it really made sense. We can change our lifestyle just by adding short bursts of exercise or wellness into our regimen. The term “you have to make this a lifestyle change” is sometimes scary to my clients, friends and family but she put it in a way that makes it seem easier and fun. So I suggest you do something new for 10 minutes today whether it’s taking 10 minutes to be totally alone, meditating, cleaning, playing, exercising, or preparing a meal for the day. Whatever you do, have fun with it and know you are working towards a healthier you and a lifestyle change won’t seem so challenging anymore.
Go and add something into your routine for just 10 minutes today. Come on! Anyone can find 10 minutes even if it’s just going to bed 10 minutes earlier to be more rested to start your day tomorrow.

In addition to presentations by several nationally recognized authorities on weight control, the main stage speakers will address the benefits of maintaining an ideal weight for overall health and wellness. Two top Harvard Medical School physicians and noted authors, Dr. Marie Pasinski (neurologist) and Dr. Malissa Wood (cardiologist), will discuss the importance of a healthy lifestyle, including weight control, on heart and brain health. Experts will be available throughout the event for Q&A. This year's Expo will also spotlight events geared to men and children. Around 125 exhibitor booths and informational tables related to health and well-being participate. Visitors receive complimentary bags filled with health and wellness products and information. The 2012 Expo theme "Weight Loss for Wellness: Lose Weight, Feel Great," was developed with our nation's — and our region's — ever-alarming obesity rates in mind. (The New York State Health Department's most recent statistics indicate that 59.6 percent of Ulster County adults and 62.6 percent of Dutchess County adults are obese or overweight.) Obesity is often accompanied by chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. Lifestyle changes required to achieve and maintain weight loss can be challenging. At any point in time, one in three women and one in five men in the United States are on some kind of diet, according to registered dietician and nationally recognized nutrition expert Mary Hartley, one of this year's main stage speakers. "These diets produce short-term weight loss but two or three years later 95 percent of traditional dieters regain the weight," she says. This year's main stage speakers will include: - Mary Hartley, a registered dietitian, writer and leader in the nutrition field, will discuss the concept of "Intuitive Eating," a non-diet approach to weight-loss that "shifts the paradigm from weight-loss to wellness, from food fear to food pleasure and from body dissatisfaction to body trust." Hartley is the former Director of Nutrition for CalorieCount.com, a diet website owned by The New York Times. Hartley helped develop the website, which aids members in managing their diets and weight, and wrote the popular Ask Mary, your personal nutritionist column;
- Dr. Marie Pasinski, a staff neurologist at Massachusetts General Hospital and a faculty member at Harvard Medical School, is the author of Boost Your Brain Power and Beautiful Brain, Beautiful You - 7 Steps to a Better, Smarter Younger You. She believes the key to changing our lives for the better involves improving our brains. Pasinski will present a program for keeping our brains in peak condition, training them with the same intent as elite athletes train their bodies;
- Jessica Smith, a nationally-recognized fitness and lifestyle expert and promoter of the "10-Minute Solution" and author of Thin in 10, will discuss how exercising in short clips can improve our health and wellbeing and also fit into our lifestyle. The featured fitness expert on over 40 million boxes of Special K products, Smith has starred in 13 best-selling fitness DVD's since 2005;
- Dr. Malissa Wood, a clinical cardiologist and staff physician in the Cardiac Ultrasound Laboratory at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, will present her new book, Smart at Heart: A Holistic 10-Step Approach to Preventing and Healing Heart Disease. Her approach bridges the gap between the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of a healthy heart and delivers a toolbox of new scientific findings on what women at risk of heart disease can do to improve their own health;
- Diane Carbonell, one of the nation's top weight-loss bloggers, is a formerly obese 300-pound mom who lost 150 pounds and has kept it off for 14 years. Carbonell will share her "Fit to the Finish" plan for weight loss that focuses on the percentage of fat in our diets, exercise and portion size;
- Jennifer Rumple, the Biggest Loser At Home Winner from "Biggest Loser Season Twelve," will discuss losing 145 pounds while battling a serious knee injury on The Ranch. Jennifer weighed her heaviest at 365 pounds on her 39th birthday. Now 40 and 180 pounds lighter, she feels her new, healthy lifestyle and physical body finally match who she is on the inside. She's dedicated to inspiring others to make smart choices about nutrition and fitness and to live the most healthy, happy and amazing life possible;
- Bernie Salazar, the Biggest Loser At Home Winner from "Biggest Loser Season Five", is now committed to helping combat the childhood obesity epidemic that is literally weighing down our nation's kids. His book Monstercise focuses on getting kids up and active by encouraging them to use their imagination as they participate in a series of fun and exciting movements with the help of an imaginary little monster named Frank;
- Michael Tischler, DDS, a dentist with a private practice in Woodstock, will discuss gum disease and overall health, eating disorders and oral issues for women, pregnancy and oral health, and healthy dental self-esteem;
- Liz Neporent, a health and fitness expert, writer and social media consultant, will also moderate a panel of the main stage speakers in the afternoon, giving the audience additional time to ask questions. Neporent is a regular contributor to ABC News where her influential online Reporter’s Notebook series covers a diversity of health topics such as the psychology of barefoot running and obesity in fruit flies. She is author and coauthor of more than 15 health books including Fitness for Dummies, now in its 4th edition and Weight Training for Dummies, now in its 3rd edition.
In addition to the main stage speakers, workshops on a variety of topics will be offered during the day, including: Management of Infertility and da Vinci Robotics, Myths and Facts of the Supplement Industry, Living Well in Spite of Endometriosis, and You Have The Power to Heal Yourself. Eight fitness demonstrations will also take place throughout the Expo, among them: Body Flow, Zumba and Zumba Gold for Seniors, Smart Bells, MMAXOUT Kickboxing, along with others in cooperation with the YMCA and MAC Fitness. More than half a dozen chefs will offer cooking demonstrations. Held at Tech City in previous years, this year's Expo is moving to its new location at the M. Clifford Miller School because the increased space and layout there are better suited to main stage needs, cooking facilities, weight and fitness rooms and the ever-growing number of health and fitness professionals and exhibitors who will be participating, according to Dr. Debra Karnasciewicz, founder and director of the not-for-profit Women's Health and Fitness Foundation and the Expo. Event details including online tickets and up-to-the-minute schedules can be found at www.womenshealthexpo.com.
This DVD is really good for anyone looking to save time while getting a really good workout. I say this because it's overall body workout. When you take part in this training you are using compound moves and you are working two and three muscle groups at once. This is highly effective training. By engaging more than one muscle at the same time you are also in a cardio type zone so you are burning more calories.
If you don't have time to go to the gym and you want a good workout pop in this DVD. If you have time to go to the gym and you want an extra workout - pop in this DVD. FYI: to start you can do it without weights or soup cans, whatever - but after a few times or if you already work with weights 5 & 8 pounders close by would be great. If you are just starting out 3 lbs is even good. Also, be aware there are lunges and squats and if you have any knee issues you can modify by kicking or walking in place or jogging in place...whatever works for you.
As with any exercise regimen, be sure to check with a doctor first.
Like with all DVD's it can be purchased on Amazon.com. I do not get anything for previewing these dvd's or reviewing them so this isn't to sell it for anyone...it's all about my opinion in finding dvd's I think you may or may not like.
Below some info from a press release...

"There is no limit to what you can imagine. And the moment you imagine anything, it begins to come to life. When you imagine, you plant a seed. The more detailed and specific your imagination becomes, the more that seed will grow. Imagine the place you would most like to be. Then imagine how you could get there. Continue to imagine, in greater and greater detail, and at some point an amazing transformation occurs. The object of your imagination crosses over into reality. When you imagine, you focus your mind on the possibilities. And your mind goes to work to make those possibilities happen. When you imagine, be sure to imagine the very best. For what you can imagine sets the stage for where you'll go." -- Ralph Marston
Hi readers of my blog... I had to put this on today because I wrote a little on my Poughkeepsie Journal blog - check it out - pre ss here and it struck me so funny I couldn't help it. Okay.. it's time to do a review on a really, really cool item and a fantastically cool company. Let me tell you a little bit about SnackTAXI. Their mission is to create fun and friendly items that make it easy for everyone to move their food in sustainable style. Here are some the advantages as listed on their tags of the Sandwich Sacks. They are machine washable - and it's true – I washed mine and it's still in perfect condition. Their materials are free of lead, phthalates, and BPA – hooray!!! The US alone adds 20 million plastic baggies to landfills every singe day – These fashionable little bags help to cut back on plastic bag usage. Each reusable bag you use keeps as many as 100 plastic bags out of the waste stream – Hooray SnackTaxi!!! I tested out my SnackTAXI sandwich sacks several times in the last few weeks. I brought everything from sandwiches to pretzels to healthy snacks and everything in between and I've been very happy with the quality, the lightness, and the fact that it is washable. It also helps that they are very stylish. All in all, I love my sandwich sacks. I may be trying other products of theirs in the future so stay tuned. You go SnackTAXI! Way to go!!! Check out the website where they have other products and all the wonderful designs and patterns for adults and kids. This is from their about us page: I invented SnackTAXIs way back in 2003 as a way to stem the tide of plastic ziplock bags that flowed from our house to the landfill when our 3 kids started school! We pack over 500 lunches every year, and had definitely fallen prey to the easy appeal of the ziplock bag. SnackTAXIs are easy too - really! They are made in our home-based workshop by talented (and fun!) local sewers - we are committed to keeping our business local, and will never outsource our labor. We hope you'll enjoy using snackTAXIs as much as we enjoy making them! Erin Kelly-Dill, Owner For more information visit www.snacktaxi.com
